Filthy lil dirty compressor follered me home last weekend, had been living under a workbench for loooonnnngg time but for 5$ I figured the 1/2 hp motor, gauge and air chuck would break me even.Got some of the crud etc cleaned off it today and plugged it in,pumped right up to 120 and shut off, can't find and leaks, now I,m curious as to just what I have.Brass tag says Copeland Refrigeration Corp,Model SF547,heavy cast iron oil sump pump, oblong head(2cyl?),has heavy brass fittings on intake and output sides and cast double pulley.Maybe old refrigeration unit converted to air pump?Looks like pump/motor mounted was backyard welded to 10 gal tank by amature stick welder long ago,may have been remote tank at one time.Tank is also extremely heavy, suspected water..but is clear.Any info appreciated...I may just"restore" this puppy as everything seems serviceable except the cord and hose.

Joe, I think all Muller Bulk Milk Tanks are cooled by Copeland.

I used to do a lot of bulk milk tank refrig. service years ago. Surge, Mueller's, Creamery package's, etc. Most of the time the farmers would call me AFTER they were done milk'n and tell me the tanks do not work. It was always a scamble to get there and SAVE THE MILK.

Copeland compressors were always my first preference, but, a lot of times I had to put Tecumseh compressors on a Copeland unit.

Farm work always a lot of fun. After 35 yrs., I am PROUD to say that I never lost MILK for the farmer. I used to cover a 50 mile radius. Nowadays, most of the dairy farmers went out of busienss.

Joe,

Somewhere's on the compressor there might still be the tag that willhave the model number and serial number listed for your Copeland.

If you can post, here, the model and serial number, I'll research it and git back to ya.

you are correct, that is an old refrigeration compressor. copeland is one of the leading brands of refrigeration compressors, especially in central air units. many refrigeration compressors pass a lot of oil into the output. check the oil level often and don't use your "new" compressor for spraying paint, or dusting things off. the oil is good for air tools though.

Thanx, this came from estate sale and seller said it had set under his Dads workbench for at least the last 30yrs pumpin up tires and dusting the bench etc.Surprisingly there doesn't seem to be any oil residue to speak of in the black pipe manifold or hose.I blew off 3-4 tankfulls thru a shop rag and air is clean.I've got a modern 6hp/80 and a restored antique Devilbiss 20gal,guess I'll start a collection :).
