Pressure Washer water supply

I have a Sears 2300psi high pressure washer which states "Do not siphon standing water for the water supply." does this mean I must only use the garden hose at the house?

Pressure washer pumps are not designed for sucking up water. They are designed to take water that is put to them and pressurize it. Gravity fed water is fine but not to suck it up out of a hole.

I agree that the gravity feed from a barrel should work fine. If you can raise the barrel up a few feet, it would perform even better. Remember you gain almost 1 PSI for every two feet you raise the water level (.43 PSI per foot to be exact) Assuming, of course, the barrel can be mounted directly above the pump - not counting friction loss over a distance.

Also, one of those small/cheap drill-operated pumps would be enough to supply this type of unit.

That means don't let it suck up dirty water. I have a gas powered 2500 psi machine, I have used it alot gravity fed from a 55 gal drum of clean water,it'll run a half hour on a barrel full. Another thing is make sure your pump intake(where the garden hose connects) has one of those washing machine type screens.

Siphon is the key word. A gravity feed as mentioned should be fine. The problem with siphoning up water (besides the contaminates) is that under a vacuum water can boil at a low temp , & that will destroy a pump in short order. It is also hard to ensure that no air is being introduced into system. Just My opinion. Regards, Davis

All pumps work better being above atmospheric pressure than below atmospheric on the intake. Cavitation beats pumps to death too. Standing water tends to have debrie which will wear pump seals, valves and nozzles.

I use a wayne pump inline from my outside tanks - works great.
