A farmer while bushhogging ran over a short 8in stump. It went clear thru right into the tube.
He repaired the tube with a hotpatch and put a
short carriage bolt thread outside in the hole.
He put a 3in round washer on the inboard side
and a 2.5in on the outside. Over the washer on
the inside he put a large piece of innertube to
protect the tube.
The added benefit is the bolt adds to the traction.

Had a bad nail hole in one of my own tires at work, dismounted tire, found out then we were out of patches, out of desperation smeared some black silicone, automotive type, on nail hole pretty thick, and inch and a half in diameter. covered silicone with disc cut from heavy plastic bag, reassembled tire and inflated, just wanted to get me home. Lasted another 20,000 miles! Have used this idea at least 6 more times, only had one failure, this was on tubeless radial tires.
