well problems

I was having loss of pressure problems with my well. It would trickle then surge when the pump kicked in. I put on new 20 gal tank, charged to 18psi when empty, 20-40 pressure switch and gauge. Now the water will just cut out completely and then just come back on "sometime" later.

I now notice that gauge may read 30psi and still no water. I have an old mobile home and the water comes in and passes a cutoff, then there is a split to a faucet then on to this two dohicky thing with a blue cap on one side, red on the other, with a label "push to bypass" could this be an issue? How about the control box? I havent replaced that yet. About at wits end... have tried many suggestions to no avail.

Anybody got a thought?????

Martin

Do the test Mark suggested first. If there is no or little water at the tank, the controller might be bad. Either way, you are going to need a plumber/well service.

If the gauge says 30 psi and you have no water, either the gauge is wrong or there is blockage downstream from the gauge.

Your "doohicky" may be a bypass valve for a water softener. If that's the case, then there's been hard water run through the plumbing and you could have clogged pipes. The bypass valve needs to be in the bypass position, otherwise it will try to run water through the missing softener; I assume the connections are capped.

Trying opening the drain on your tank and see if the pump will cycle and verify that the pump is kicking on and off at the right pressures. If this is all good, then work your way downstream through the mobile home plumbing until you find the blockage. My guess is that you'll need to replace all of the pipes up to the water softener bypass including your outside faucet.
