Is this electrode appropriate for front end coil spring repair. I've got a MOOG coil that snapped (can't figure for the life of me why).

I'd rather repair, I've got 2lbs of this stuff, so mite as well use it.

Thanks.

The heat of the welding will ruin the temper of the steel and the spring will break again, adjacent to the weld.

Never heard of welding an automobile coil spring, doubt you can and have it still work properly and not break.

New ones are just not that expensive.

I did jobs on leaf springs using it. It's stressed to 220,000 lbs psi. It's purpose is spring steel welding.

Thing is I never tried it on coil springs.

Thanks

In a leaf spring pack, it likely holds the pieces together and the adjacent leaves help support the repair. Unless the leaf was retempered, I can"t see it carring the same load. For a coil, I"d say no way. The loading on a coil spring is pretty complex and I can"t see it working at all unless the whole thing is retempered. So, unless it is a rare or expensive coil, it wouldn"t be worth it.
