I would not pay over $500 for a Lincoln that old. The rheostat most likely is burned up and they run about 100 to 150. On the plus side I believe that model has solid copper windings which is a good thing. The bearings on the armature eat a lot of dust over the years so be suspect of those. As far as the Continental engine, it's darn near bullet proof except for starter rebuilds occasionally. The vacumn idle govenor is lousy if it works at all. The later models had much better setups. I just bypassed mine and set the throttle manually, but that has it's disadvantages too. I usually use a digital voltmeter and measure the dc voltage at the accessory plug and set my throttle by that. And that brings up the last issue that the accessory plug is DC voltage only which will run some powertools like a saw and grinder, but it will promptly burn up any varible speed tool and most anything slightly digital etc. That plug is pretty much useless for anything except a 4" grinder. All in all a strong reliable machine, but just be wary of some of these weak points when buying. Hope this helps.
