A little off forum, but i notice wells and water discussed here too. Does anyone know of home insulation sold in sealed bags in lengths of 8 feet or so? Someone from Fla. told me Homedepot sells it, but i didn't see it at the local one. Sure would beat the "itches" if i could find out who makes it and track them down.

Years ago I bought a ranch house w/attached garage that I've since sold, but needed to insulate the attic. I've never heard of 8' lengths and would think that it would cost more than bulk rolled lengths. Perhaps not, perhaps pennies if does. Anyway, I figured out what I needed as far as square footage, bought the insulation, and let set until I got the time to do it. When the time came, started throwing rolls up into the attic. When I climbed up there and got a good look, were 24" centers, not the 16" centers (rolls) that I'd bought months before. Was miserable up there rolling huge rolls out (no clue how long, but long), then cutting the length down the center to make 24". It worked, but next time I'll take a real good look first. ITCH??? Yep, the pink panther and my stupidity ganged up to get me real good.

The kind in bags gets rid of the itch and any contamination. Thought it would be ideal in the bottom of an RV. When you have to fix plumbing, replace a dump valve, or remove a holding tank, all that insulation has to come back out and it will stink from absorbing holding tank or drain leaks. Plus the loose stuff falls in your eyes as you are working on your back in the bottom of an RV. Bag seems like a good idea in that situation and easier to store while out and washable too.

Hi DB,

I"ve been trying to remember what we used when working with fiberglass duct work.

Baby powder! Use it before your start then shower right after the job then wash your cloths at the laundry mat.

One guy used corn starch with good results.

when i bought mine, the 8' insulation was folded in half in the bag, making all the bags look the same.

The stuff Owens Corning sells is called Miraflex. I think it only comes in R25/ 8 3/4" thick and in 25" rolls. You can look it up on their web site because it is listed there.
Any place that sells Owens Corning insulation should be able to order it for you.
My local Home Depot sells it. It is White in a pink plastic wrap.

We ask for Johns-Mansville fiberglass insulation because it doesn't itch like the pink Owens-Corning. I haven't used the packaged variety, but even the exposed insulation is less irritating to work with. It is white!

Ask for it. All home centers sell it. It's also white in color. I think Johns-Mansville makes it but others might also.
