O.T. 92 Chevy Corsica will not start (HELP)

Okay Folks, I know this is not the proper subject matter for board, but thought maybe someone may have an idea or has experienced this. I am driving a 1992 Chevy Corsica. On Thursday I got in it to go to work and NOTHING. I have been trying to get this thing sorted out ever since. When you turn the key to the start position on the ignition switch, nothing happens. I have managed to rule out the battery, starter, neutral kill switch, and ignition switch. The fuzes (all the ones that I have found) are good. The fuzible links appear to be okay. Any and all assistance that some one may be willing to offer will be most appreciated.

Hello Folks,
Thanks for all the assistance and advice with the problems with the car. After exhausting all efforts, I went back to the starter (it had been tested more than once) after it wouldn't do anything when jumping the terminals I made me some jumper wires and took the car electrical system out of the equation. Still wouldn't work...removed the starter from the car and it didn't work when jumping it from the battery. Put on the other car's battery and wouldn't work. This is with both my homemade jumper wires and a set of heavy duty booster cables. Took the starter to the parts store (different store but same auto parts chain) and it wouldn't work. They exchanged the starter, because it has a "lifetime" warranty and I took it home and put it on the car. BINGO!!!!! ! It works now. Now I am running late to get to work so I will have to finish buttoning up everything tomorrow. I really do appreciate all the inputs, I'm not the best mechanic in the world and wouldn't lie to someone by telling them that. But this was really getting to be trying on the nerves, especially since I took apart or troubleshot just about everything that it could possibly be on the car.

If everything lights up with the key turned on and battery appears to be fully charged, I would have someone hold the ignition key in the start position and tap on the starter motor with a hammer. Doesn't have to be a large hammer a 16 ounce ball peen will do fine. If the engine starts or the starter tries to operate, you've hit the problem on the head. (I couldn't resist). We do this on GM products all the time at the shop. Been doing it for 20 years. It doesn't always work but it works alot of the time. Take extreme care not to have the engine start and the car run you over.

The correct way to check would be to check for voltage at the starter connections, if the battery and it's connections are ok. The large connection should have battery power at all times. The smaller connection with a single wire will have 12 volts only when the ignition key is in the crank position. If nothing is happening with key in the crank and voltage is correct at all connections, the starter is defect.

Crusader,

I have seen this happen on many GM products with side terminal batteries. There is enough contact there to light lights and such but as soon as you try to engage any significant load, the connection opens. I have seen a lot of the side terminal batteries break inside the battery at the positive connection. Its a commonly overlooked problem from what I have experienced. Hope this helps.

You say "nothing happens". OK, what do the dash gauges/indicators do?

If "nothing", then you have a dead primary circuit. That means that either the battery is shorted internally, either or both of the primary cables are defective, or the terminals/connections for the primary cables are corroded/loose/dirty, etc. Easy enough to back trace with your DMM.
