I am looking at replacing a couple of overhead doors. What are the brand I should stay away from and which ones should I look for? I am looking to replace a 10 foot wide by 12 foot tall wooden door with a steel insulated door. I was not at all happy with the life of the wooden door. And I am going to put another 10x12 in the place of a 7x9. What should I expect to pay for these doors?

Another vote for insulated Clopay's here. Had 'em on my 4 bay garage for 12 years now, still look and work like new.

Just talked to the guy that sells and installs doors around me and he said a good door could be had and installed for around 725.00 a piece. I thought this was pretty cheap. I will find out later what kind of luck I will have. Jake

I have one Clopay, and one Wayne Dalton. I think Clopay is the better door. It just seems to have better hardware, and i bought the better models, not there low end doors.

My Clopay is insulated to R13 !!!

Robert

I like the dalton line, clopay makes decent ones also. As far as price, that will vary on what you buy. Shop around. A regular 12x10 will probably "start" at over 600 bucks, thats bare minimum. Insulation, type, spring style, windows, all adds up to cost. Seen some this size go for 1000 bucks.

Wayne-Dalton makes an OK door but the automatic openers are junk.

If you are going to be doin this work yourself you may want to contact your local proffesional door place. Recently I have been able to replace 3 garage doors from the take-offs that one door place had. They said that I was welcome to anything in their pile as they eventually had to dispose of it all. Never hurts to ask.
