Good Idea?

Are they any good?

They say add to oil and let run at idle
for 15min before oil change. It didn't seem to do it any harm. I was expecting the mains to pound or the lifters to
get noisy but nothing happened. The ingrediant is kerosene. Then I knew what
they were up to. The idea is to thin out the oil
enough to desolve whats in the lines. Maybe I can use it before every oil change
and eventually the lines will be clear. What do you think. I'm running 15lbs at fast
idle, do you think I need it.?

I used some in a 4 cyl. car engine that had been neglected. It had black gunk on the dipstick and in valve cover. I did this 3 times every 3000 miles and it cleaned up pretty good. I was worried about stopping something up, but so far (1 1/2 years later) everthing is OK.

If the engine isn't too bad, don't worry about it. You might just want to change the oil more frequently. John Deere used to recommend flushing the engine with kerosene in a 1010 owners manual.

I AM NOT RECOMMENDING THIS....

But...I have drained hot oil from an engine before and let it drip out until completely cold (long time). Replaced oil filter with a new one, replaced the drain plug and filled with kero.
I started the engine and let it run for NO MORE THAN A MINUTE. Drained the kero and replaced the filter with yet another new one. I let the kero drip out for at least an hour. Plugged and refilled with my favorite oil.
The kero comes out totally black, and I have watched chunks of goo ooze out the drain hole on old engines.

One caution about an engine flush. On an older tractor engine the cam and lifters are oversize for the load plus they have soft valve springs because they don't rev very high, so lube requirements are not very high.
Most of the newer automotive engines have cam and lifter systems that are barely up to the job with good oil. The valve springs are quite stiff as some of these engines rev up to 6000 rpm which makes for high cam and lifter loads. A quart of gasoline in the oil from a badly flooded(stuck float or ruptured fuel pump ) small block chevy V8 is almost certain to ruin the cam and lifters.
