Have a Ford 3/4 with the V-10 pass anything but a gas station.
I have a Lance camper on the truck and pull a trailer with 2 quads.
We live in mich. but go to ONTARIO to fish VERY remote lakes.
The Ford sits so high and with the camper on it doesn't handle as easy as I would like. A little sway.
Was thinking of getting a 5th wheel and put the camper and the quads on that. What is the thinking of this outfit other than it may look a little ya know.
Would it be an easier pull--never pulled a 5th. wheel--wouldn't need a real heavy unit.

You could try adding air bags on front& rear to help keep level that helps and does not cost a bundle

I have noticed the move here in Az. towards 5th Wheels and Bumper Hitch trailers with a Cargo area with a Ramp Tail Gate at the rear of the Trailer. Kind of expensive but is a solution to a lot of problems. I looked at new 4 Wheel Drive P.U. Trucks and found them all to tall to tow my Jayco Designer 3430 with. My trailer rides nose high behind them. Have to stay with a 2 wheel drive.My $1.00 worth.

Hi lenray,

Depends on how you mount the camper on the 5th wheel bed. I've seen some that look great as they mounted the overhead just like a 5th RV and filled in the sides with storage boxes.

If you want more living space add on a room behind the camper. Enclosed area for the quads? Why not. Add fuel tanks, extra water tanks, black tank, battery's...etc

A 5th wheel puts the pin load weight right over the truck axle so you get great handling of the trailer.

Since your going to be in the backcountry, you might consider a GN. Much easier to hitch/unhitch on uneven ground but pulls like a 5th.

That's not a bad idea. 5th wheel beats tag trailers in every way except you give up the bed.

However, if the only reason for doing so is the wind-induced sway, get yourself to a big 4x4 shop and ask about suspension modifications... solid sway bars, polyurethane suspension bushings, higher rate springs, Bilstein shocks, load range "E" tires, etc. Lots cheaper in the long run and using those parts you can actually make the beast handle pretty well.

Good thoughts--still thinking 5th wheel as the Ford sits so high we need a 3 step ladder to get into the camper and me and granny pushing 60 being lower would be another plus. Granny thinks with the fiver on the trailer we might be a little oakie.

If you don't want to look too "rural", and the cost isn't a problem, why don't you look into the type of travel trailer that has a compartment in the back to load the quads. Everything would be out of the weather and secure. They are available both 5th wheel or straight hitch and there are many manufacturers to choose from.

What you need is a gooseneck, flatbed trailer of the low deck style, not the high deck. The low deck will sit at the same distance from the ground as an ordinary bumper hitch car hauling trailer, but will tow much, much, nicer due to where the trailer is hitched to the truck. With your camper mounted on this trailer, it will be very easy for you and your wife to simply step onto the trailer floor and then into the camper, no stairs needed. The gooseneck will clear your truck with no problem. I have a highdeck style gooseneck flatbed, which I pull with a 2001 Chevy one ton dually with 4 wheel drive. I had to install running boards just to help me get into the cab, and I stand 6 ft. tall. I don't think your Ford would stand any taller.
