I have one of the newer dewalt singke tank four gallon air compressor. I like it, but it just dont suit my needs. Too bulky, and heavy to move like i had hoped to do with it. Neighbor of mine has a side stack am78 emglo air compressor. It seems to be mechanical sound, and refills in 10-15 seconds. How hard are these to wear out? Any thing i should look for? How much would one of these be to rebuild??? Cause i am thinking about taking a gamble and tradeing him. So whatcha guys think? keep the ugly yeller dewalt or trade for the ole blue emglo???

Later guys chris

what are my chances of needing parts? in reply to chris smith, 08-08-2004 19:10:37
What are my chances of needing parts? and how long are parts goin to be around? How long will parts for my dewalt emglo be around, I hate to trade an almost new compressor for a used one and have it quit and not be able to find parts. If i knew i could find parts in coming years, i would much rather have blue over yeller. So whatcha think, what would you do?

Sounds like your buddy is getting the better in this deal. He's dumping a mchine he knows is going to be difficult to get parts for in a few years for a brand new machine, probably with warranty left. Keep yours.

go with the true emglo modle anyday of the week. i've seen some of those true blue compressors take a beating for many years and keep on ticking! So if your neighbor is actually going to take you up on the trade go for it.

just my 2 bits.

how bout a dewalt rant!! in reply to gimmie ole blue, 08-08-2004 20:48:23
How about a little dewalt rant! I dont know if dewalt is all to blame or not, but according to them no pump or motor parts are available for the ole am78! I would of thought they would be around, so i dont know if the dewalt take over is the reason parts arent available or not, but it sadens me to see one of the best portable air compressors being ruined by dewalt! So anybody have any comments or other places i might be able to find parts? Cause if i cant be sure i will be able to get parts i am afraid i wont be able to trade compressors and will have to pass up this emglo trade. So anybody know of other part suppliers??

I'm a bit partial to the true blue. but i can tell you that dewalt does not have any replacement parts for the old blues, whenever they moved the operation to mexico this past year they sold off all of the old emglo components. thats why you cant get parts for them. i know of an outfit that is selling those parts, they musta bought a whole bunch of the extras and are selling them as kits to build your own emglo compressor. also another outfit in somerset, Pa is building some pumps that are the same as the emglo units( they bought the patent rights i think) so you might also try them . hope some of that was of help. oh ps i have the number of hte outfit thats selling the kits if your interested.
