I am a beginner at tractor restoration. I have a 1952 8N Ford and just recently acquired a 1946 Farmall B. The problem I have with the Farmall is this; It turns over great, but I get no spark. I checked the coil, it's good. Then I discovered the shaft on the distributor was not turning. I marked the case and pulled it out and jogged the starter while watching the little gear inside the housing. It was not turning. I do not have any manuels yet and do not want to just tear into it withot getting some direction. Does this sound like a major problem? I wonder if their might be a shaft pin or a gear broken off which might be turned by the motor? I need some advice please!

Thanks to anyone who will respond.

Jim, the not so smart mechanic.

Hi Jim. Looking at the parts manual it looks like the distributor gear has a pin threw to lock it too the shaft. Make that pin is not sheared. Let me know if thats it.

I was too little to remember the details, but our H tractor had this problem. There are a pair of small gears in there, ours wore the teeth off & rotated whenever it felt like it. The thing died on me in the barn with a bucket of manure on it in winter...
