I am looking at brush trimmers and had my mind set on a stihl. I thought that was the brand to get when someone told me they bought on and thought it was worthless. What can anyone tell me about brand selection.

All my comercial customers are getting away from Stihl becsue when you have carb problems, they are very difficult to rebuild. Carb replacement seems to be the only way to fix them. Echo, Redmax, Shindiawa alll have went to a differnet carb that gives more positive throttle response, less power droop when under load. The best lightweight trimmer I have found that hold up well to 30-40 hour per week is a Redmax BCZ2400, very fuel efficient, easy starting, lightweight, good little trimmer. Redmax aslo is one the few trimmers on the market that are a 300hour EPA rated trimmer. All companies have that on their high end trimmers, but all the Redmax have that rating. This is a strato Charged engine, less pollution, less unburnt fuel blubbering out the exhaust, more fuel efficiency. For heavier work go to the BCZ2600. Plus all Redmax trimmers have a solid drive shaft in them, so you can put a blade on it without worrying about twisting the drive shaft out of it.

You get what you pay for. If I was looking for a cheap trimmer for light work, I probably wouldn't buy a Stihl. But Stihl makes some very good medium-duty and heavy-duty trimmers. I have an FS85 that I've abused for about six years and it's still going strong.

When I look at what the commercial landscapers use, it seems to be RedMax, Stihl and Shindaiwa. I've never seen a commercial operator with an Echo.

This subject has been beaten to death, if you want to check the archives.

Bought a Stil brush trimmer 2 years ago (paid a good dollar for it new) and still going strong. Use it to control 6 acres of brush, trim the new sproughts, cuts 1 inch saplings with no problem. You could get something else but you get what you pay for.

Buy a Honda. Very quiet, immensely powerful, starts easy, etc. Not inexpensive but worth every penny.

JUST BOUGHT A NEW ECHO SR210. NO PROBLEMS YET, BUT NEEDS A HARNESS AS IT'S WAY HEAVY TO RUN AFTER 2OR 3 HOURS.
