VKG,
I used to work in a Caddy dealer, and yes, you can support the motor and transmission with a jack from underneath. Be sure to use a 2x4 or something similar to spread the load on the oil pan and it will be fine. You will need metric tools, and some flex sockets will make the job much easier. Take your time and be sure to support the frame with stands while you're underneath. As far as changing the plugs, again, take your time and be careful. The back side can be a real pain, so if you decide to take it to someone else who has done it before, there is no shame in that. The 90 Deville is a great car. Take care of her and she will give many miles of comfort and dependable service. Good Luck and God Bless, Tommy

Excellent car.

I have a 91 that I bought for a winter car here back in 98. It had 94K miles on it then, and now has 172K. Still runs strong and looks like it just came out of the showroom.

Do your maintenance, and it will be fine. Never had to do anything with tranny or motor mounts, so can't tell you what to do.

Plugs are hard to change. I would take it somewhere. You cannot do it yourself in the time that they can, and they are responsible for a broken plug or a crossed thread.

Also,--make sure that you change the coolant regularly, and add the GM cooling supplement that the dealer sells in pellets. If you don't do that you will ruin your block.

Good luck.

Hi VKG;
I bought a low milage 1990 Fleetwood FWD a few years ago to use for a second / third vehicle. The best investment I made was to buy a original factory shop manual off eBay for $15.00. Makes it a lot easier to do the basic upkeep. Just changing the front turn signal lamps required a look in the book!
