Howdy, y'all.
I was looking at a swisher walk-behind trimmer today thinking, "Gee, that sure would be nice for clearing under fences and cutting thick stuff where the tractor won't fit..." Does anyone own one or have experience with them? Any advice on how useful they are and how tough? Thanks in advance,

Darren in TN

I have had a Swisher for 3 years also. I purchased it at TSC. I have never used a DR trimmer, so I can't compare. I did use a hand held weed whacker before the Swisher, and will never go back.

The nice part about the Swisher is it is relatively light weight, and it's on wheels. I use it regularly for trimming under fence and around trees. It works pretty well unless the ground is really rough. I haven't done anything to it but keep the oil full, fill it with gas, and replace the strings.

For the price, they're hard to beat!

Dale

I have had a Swisher line trimmer for three years. It has been a good machine and I would buy another.

i have two of the craftsman high wheel trimming mowers that i used for trimming around everything before i use my riders or push mowers and would not be without them make sure to wear goggles and long sleeves shirts. they are a lot easier to use than my hand held ones . also always check your oil and condition of string before each use.

I bought a DR Trimmer at a yard sale & fixed the carb, runs great now !!! Mine works well, although the large head scalps the ground if you are not careful. If you get one, I advise wearing glasses + a face shield, & heavy clothing with long sleeves.... those things throw a lot of debris at high speeds... Regards, Davis

They are a tough trimmer. Will last a long time. A couple of nice features include the ability to swivel the head 90 degrees for edging and also the ability to offset the head either direction about 45 degrees for getting under stuff like a fence.

I've never used one myself, but have a neighbor that has one and he really likes it for trimming under fences and heavy trimming.

I can't address a 'Swisher' but I have a 'DR' that I purchsed just for that purpose. My brother has one to trim around his hog houses where it's to narrow and rough for a regular mower. They will cut heavy grass and weed cover and buck brush of a quarter inch or so. I'm not advertising but my 'DR Pro' has been very tough. It was pricey.
