I have a front axle from a Ferguson TEA 20 that is cracked and has been welded some time in the past. Can this be fixed or is it junk now.

regards

Joint prep is critical. The crack must be ground out an V'ed out on all sides. It would be nice if some one with spark testing experience could determine what steel you're working with, but most likeley, E7018 will work.

Hi Rod, Sure it can. Preheat dull cherry red to stress releive for about 2" other either side of the crack with a torch, let cool, then weld. V-grove almost all the way thru the existing weld and remove all the old weld. Alot of time it's someone that didn't take the time to clean 1" on either side of the weld or had oil (adds carbon) on the weld area that will cause the crack instead of a work harden crack area. Either way you'll have it covered with this method. Weld hot and keep a short arc length.
