Hi Larry,

Sodium silicate (egg whites) can be used for temporarly sealing a leaking head gasket but is no means a permanate fix and in fact will plug a raditor or block or water pump if not used correctly. I've used it on a couple diesel engines on a leaking head gasket.

Can also be used for a glue on cardboard.

I don't believe it's going to do a thing for your hot tub leaking. That would be much easier to reseal with silcon or plumbers putty (1st choice) if a leaking fitting.

The most important first step is to correctly and completely identify the material of the tub. Is your tub cast iron? I doubt that it is, but your question suggests that someone thinks that it is cast iron.

If tub is leaking in the fiberglass, then a epoxy /fiberglass repair is needed. If leaking in the plumbing or aroung a fitting then Tbone has the right idea.
