Electric Brakes on Car Trailer

I recently purchased a car trailer made from decks off of a car carrier mounted on mobile home axles. I notice my brakes were not stopping as good as before so I decided to pull the wheels and hubs and have a look. My brake shoes are about worn out but it looks like you can not take these shoes off because of pins that are made right into the backeting plate. Has anyone ever dealt with these kinds off brakes and am I up the creek so to speak? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hi Craig, Mobil home axles are a whole new ball game as there so many makes and models. From what I heard the bearings on the new ones are not replacable as your supposed to scrap the axle when the bearing goes.

I would cut the pin off and take the shoes to a reliner then replace the pins with a shoulder bolt with a lock nut when reinstalling. Or find new axles.

T_Bone - Thanks for the reply. The bearings on my axles are removeable and are pretty big. The hubs are those like big rigs where the rim attaches to the hub on a lip going all the way around the rim. The wheels have rims with no centers on them, if that makes sense.
Thanks again.

Hi Craig, Yes all the mobil home axles are set up this way with the open center wheel as thats where they get the strength from. You'll notice a small bump in the rim and that is where each lug washer mounts and there is a long angle face and a short angle face to each lug bolt washer. The long face mounts towards the rim side. Make sure all the washers are facing the same way or your rim can work loose. Also make sure your tires are the same size and notice that great load each carries.
