I have a 5hp MTD chipper. Can I run green bamboo through it? I know I could just try it, but would rather not screw it up if bamboo should not go through it.

I do not have an answer for you but a question. I am researching bamboo chipping and would like to find out what improvements with chippers and the chipping process have been made over the last 20 years. Do you have any comments on this or know of any chipper manufacturers that have been working on improvements for chipping bamboo?

I don't see why you can't. Bamboo is more brittle and should shatter in a chipper. Wear protection for your eyes cause it can turn into little swords and cough back .

The only concern I can think of is that bamboo has a pretty good amount of silica in it and is tough on blades. So the only problem would be dulling the chipper blades prematurely.
