I need to drill 100's of holes in truck frame.I haven't been able to locate a used drill press with a magnetic base. What's the best buy on a good unit?

Carl,

was liiking thru a kbc tool catalog tonight...
www.kbctools.com

and saw a magstand to which you attach your own drill... 6" diameter base 165 swivel... 8" drill dravel 110 v operation 354.00 not to shabby for a mag base the drill was another 125.00 separate or 365.oo for the combo...

probably find it on the web site... item number 1-827-010 for the base 1-827052 for the combo.

for frame drilling ??? the only ones I have trouble with are the underside... just don't have enough butt in my britches anymore to do many of them from the underside... I've had good luck sitting my drill in the cup of my floor jack and easing the jack up to contact... then usually the weight of the handle is enough pressure to bore thru... just go slow at breakthru or it can get away from you... frame steel is hard and some is even harder :-) try the floor jack before you drop 400 bucks...

later
john

Magnetic drill presses don't come cheap. Try a google search and check out ENCO on the web. A friend of mine was in same predicament and went with a clamp type drill press from Snap-On. I've used(borrowed) it and it works great, lightweight and holds most popular 1/2" drills. About 200 bucks but worth it. Its a high strength aluminum I think which makes it so light. Versatal enough to even get inside a frame rail. He did purchase special reamer bits which made the enlarging of the drilled holes easier but they are pricey bits but worth it.
