Hydraulic press bed

I have been building a hydraulic press and I used 1"x4" flat bridge irons, on edge for the bed. From pin to pin(meaning the pins that hold the bed up and into place)are 34". I used 4"x4" uprights so the irons were 4" apart. I have a 40 ton hydraulic jack and the bridge irons bowed out and down.Maybe I should use a smaller jack. I am considering using draw bars that are 1 3/4" x 3 1/4", I know the drawbars will spring back to a certain point,but will they break? The drawbars are off a large JD tractor so I know they are made of pretty good iron. Maybe I should get some more bridge irons and put 2 on each side,with a 2" gap in the middle of the bed.This would make it 2"x4"x 34" on each side. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Mouse , I have a factory built press that uses 1 X 6 bar and is 60 ton . but there is some bridging under the 1 x 6 .

I copied a commercially available "12 ton bottle jack press". The uprights are 24 inches apart and all the C channel is 2 X 5 inches.

Use the largest channel iron you can lay your hands on. It wont bow and flex as bad.
