Is the fuel filter(stone) required in order to run and pull the fuel in or does the pump not require the backpressure. The end of the filter fell off on me while running it. Debating wether it is that or the carb needs rebuilt also. I just got this saw going again and was running fairly good for 15 minutes or so after it sat for about 5 years. Yes I did put new fuel line in and the pump line from the engine is connected.

Most of the carbs. and saws I have worked on will pill up the fuel from the tank in three or four pulses of the piston. These little carbs can really pump when they are working correctly. If you have a Zama carb the pump diaphrams get brittle and crumble like a potato chip. These carbs do not need the filter to work BUT you better have one in there. A little blob of saw dust the size of a match head will kill the saw. Any replacement filter for your hose size will work and cost about $2.50. Rebuild the carb and I bet all will be all better. Have rebuilt zama carb C10 for a mac saw, carb still floods. Mark at the lawm more shop had same problem. Can you help on thisproblem?

but did you put fresh fuel in? Old fuel has the mix oil break down after 6 months so that you're same as running it on pure gasoline, which will lock up the piston. It does not need the fuel filter on to run.

I thought it should run without a filter, couldn't tell if the fuel was just pulsating in the line or actually feeding in. I think a carb kit and a good cleaning is in order. Probably a little sliver of plastic off of the filter went into the carb or maybe a chunk of varnish came lose in the carb and plugged the jet. Somebody left a little 5 year old gas in it, nasty!!
