Pexto foot shear adj. procedure?

Just picked up a very nice (looking) 37" Pexto foot shear. Tried to cut 24 ga. galvanized and it bent it over like a break. The shearing surfaces look square and parallel but too far apart. Is there a procedure for setting up/adjusting this machine? I could start turning screws, but would much prefer some good instruction or advice first. Thanks in advance!

Hi Tom,

Any common metal shear is adjusted with the same clearance spec's for carbon steel, 1/2 of maximum shear thickness rating.

Example: if the shear capicity is 22ga, then shear set clearance is .0168

That is for sharp shear blades. When the blades start getting dull then a razor cut is a common problem. A razor cut is where the metal is slightly rolled over with a sharp edge when viewed from the side edge.

You might also check that the pressure dogs are holding the metal flat and not allowing the metal to creap forward as the metal is being sheared.

We used to have a foot shear of basically the same size, but was not a pexto, so adj would be different. Look at the below and see if this might help. Seems they are still in business, maybe they would be kind enough to either send you a manual or sell you one. Hope this helps ya.
