I have two of them. Both bought used. One in the early 70's that I think had set out in the open farm shop all it's life, the second I bought at a pawn shop about 15 years ago. They are great welders.

They hold a good steady arc AND they operate just fine on a 30 amp breaker circuit. Part of being designed for farm rural electric operation I think.

The first one I bought has been abused since I got it and it still works. By abused, it set outside for about 10 years. Then I used it a lot for cutting (burning) steel before I had a oxy torch. One july down here I got it hot doing that. It still works just fine.

Copper and heavy. If you are close enough to go get it, it will be worth it. shipping will kill any bargin. If you can buy it for 200 dollars or so its good. It's worth more

My Dad bought one of these in the mid 50s. At that time, Forney was making the rounds of small farms selling them. My Dad used it to build all sorts of stuff including a complete front-end loader for his WD Allis. He used it to cut steel which puts a real strain on the welder. Never ever had a problem. I liked it so much, I bought a used one in the late 60s which I still use today. I don't know what the duty cycle is on these things but they are copper wound as the seller says and they are well built. I believe Forney is still in business and a few years back Central Tractor was selling Forney supplies.

Did you have any luck with your Forney welder? I have come into possession of an old Forney Model C, Phase 1 welder. I am trying to decide if I should try to find a way to replace the cables, ground clamp and electrode holder that are in terrible condition. I think there are some outlets offering a Lincoln AC/DC welder for something like $380 so I want to avoid putting too much money into the old Forney welder. I probably need to take it to an electrician to see if it would even work if I could get the replacement parts. Any suggestions about how to get a manual or find replacement parts would be great.
Thanks,
Rex
