anyone have any luck good/bad with these trimmer (weed wacker)? looking at buying would like some info on problems ect. thanks

Have run a 725 for 12 years and only needed spark plug changed once and air filter claned regularly to get good service from it as a weed eater and also using the pole saw attachment for cutting high limbs up to 12 ft from the ground. Well pleased with my Ryobi for my own use. Gene Davis

Thanks for the replys.. I will probably be doing some medium/heavy use with it so the feedback is good ... but still have to figure it out.. like the thoughts of a Honda but the $#$ is too high for me....thanks..

I have one, model 725r that I found somewhere, probably a dumpster. I spent about $15 for a new carb kit and used it for about 1/2 an hour when it started to run slower and slower; I thought it might be a fuel problem. It finally quit and I discovered that the clutch had somehow run itself up against the inside of the housing, melting the plastic and jamming. I have not been able to get it apart for possible repairs. I also have a straight shaft Green Machine, 18-20 years old, found at the dumps. Been using it for 12 years with 2 carb kits. It's heavy and powerful and does a great job.

Hey Mr. Noname, I find more stuff that people throw away than I buy. Yesterday at the Flea Market, someone left an unsold Stepper exercise machine, because they were to lazy to take it home and donate it to Goodwill. While there a fellow told me about some rebar dumped by the side of the road. I found 20' & 30' lengths of 1/2, 5/8 and 1 inch rebar along with garage clean out stuff like old paint, nails and other junk. Left because some one was too lazy, too dumb and too cheap to dispose of it properly. Maybe you should drive thru farming country sometime and pick up a dumped couch, refrigerator or washer because some lazy, cheap, dumb A$$ doesn't care what our America looks like and doesn't care who has to clean up their mess.

Right on the money - more stuff is "found" then bought here also. I couldn't tell you where I got everything, but I know I didn't pay for it or paid very little.

Somethings that no one brings up. I like a lot of the machines on this subject and have a BIG weedeater myself. Have this big straight shaft unit for close to eight years. Follow all of the stuff about Stabil in the gas bottle from the store and run the gas out at the end of the season. Now for the beef. Get it from a good dealer that you like and trust. Go there and get FITTED to the machine. Carry harnness and handle position. Put on goggles and go run it around the place for an hour or two. If you are still cookin along you found the correct machine. Lite duty is just that. If you are not a big person you CAN over spend and get TOO big of a unit. Stay with straight shaft and a dual feed line head. The new heads also can be wound from one point around the hub for both lines. These are great! I am a big guy but I bought the biggest Weedeater at the time and now I would move down one size! Getting fitted to the machine is very important! Just think with your head and not your sweat glands, and you should be fine. Jeff

I own a lawn care company and would recomend that you purchase a STIL weed trimmer. They are hands down the best on the market and have a very good warrenty. All of mine are FS55's. They are very reliable and very powerful.

I have a 767. I also strippped the gears at the head after a few hours of moderately heavy use over 1 summer. Fortunately it has a 2 yr warranty and the dealer gave me no hassles getting it fixed. Buy it from someone who can repair it.

It vibrates a bit much to use it comfortably for long periods of time. Its not the worst buy I ever made but I would not buy again.

FWIW....I had a model 700r that ran great for 2 years. Next year started right up and then head quit moving. Bought the same model and in less than 1 hour, same head not moving problem. Yes, I was using medium duty plastic cutters vs. the string it came with. I talked the "boss" into a much better unit.

I had one several years ago. Ornery thing was hard to start and wasn't very powerful. Replaced it with a Honda and could not be happier.

I bought one at Wally World 3-4 yers ago, and haven't had any problems with it yet. I believe I paid about $90 for this one, but don't have model number handy at the moment.

I bought a 4 cycle, straight shaft Ryobi 2 years ago and would recommend it to anyone. Starts easy and has lots of power.
