HI FROM OHIO, I AM LOOKING TO PURCHASE A OXYGEN / ACETYLINE TANKS W/ TORCHES USED - AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW A FARE VALUE TO PAY FOR A GOOD SET. ALSO, WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A USED SET TO DETERMINE WEATHER THEY ARE GOOD OR NOT AT AN AUCTION WHERE YOU CAN'T TRY THEM OUT BEFORE YOU BUY THEM! CAN ANYONE GIVE ME THIS INFO. AND PRICE RANGES?

Hi KC,

I like Victor model 100 mixing body as it's light weight with less hand fatique which means more accurate cuts and easy gas welding. About $150 to $200 for a set.

Check with your local gas supplier for cylinders as it's very easy to buy cylinders that can't be filled. 220cft Oxygen and 100cft Acetylene size cylinders works well.

Do a search on this forum as there been many good articles written on welding and cutting torch use.

The problem with buying used tanks is most gas suppliers won't refill them. If you are intent on buying used, you had better do some checking around to find a gas supplier that will refill them for you, and be able to keep them certified/tested.

Anytime you buy something at an auction you're taking a chance that it won't work. Torches are no different. There's no magic way to tell if they will be any good or not.

New regulators will run around $90/ea., a 25' hose about $20, and a medium duty torch around $175. Bottles and gas are all extra, I think I had almost $100 in my tanks when I leased them. They cost me $4.00/bottle, per month now.
