John Deere chain saws?

Anybody bought one of these? I think they are made by Olympyk, and at least according to www.chainsaws4u.com they are well made and comparable to Stihl and Husky. And considerably cheaper.

Opinions?

I�ve had a JD 50V for about 10 years. It was made in Japan � I believe by Kioritz. The local JD lawn & garden dealer stocks some replacement parts and can order the rest.

Curiously I picked up my 50V after a neighbor threw it out. Problem turned out to be a badly worn drive sprocket. Put on a new clutch drum/sprocket and the saw was good to go - it�s since cut more firewood than I care to think about. It�s a good, tough saw!

They are made by Efco in Italy. They are supposed to be a quaility saw from what i've heard. Efco mades saw chain grinders for Oregon and they are a well made smooth running machine.

The only thing that concerns me about buying a product John Deere sells and does not manufacture is parts avaiability in the future. John deere in the last 20 years has sold: McCulloch, Remington(I think) Echo, Homelite, and I think one other. If they sell a lesser known saw like Olympic, will parts be available in the furture???

I wonder too..... ...I have a really old JD chain saw. Circa 1968. They can still provide parts for it. BUT....my John Deere snowmobiles (76-78) are next to impossible to get parts for now.
