I have a 89 Ford E-150. The power operated window on the drivers side stoped working (will not open).
I am looking for someone who can tell how they work, and how to trouble shoot it. Thanks,
Dusty

if it's any thing like my 85 p/u take the interior skin off and peel away the plastic.you can look down in the view holes and see the motor.there should be a screwdriver slotted bolt on the top of the motor.turn the bolt left or right and it shound resume working again. but be aware it may happen again so do not roll the window all the way down. stop just before the bottom and it wont get stuck.

Jim gave you good advice, when you take the trim panel off, if you have 12 volts coming out of the switch, try tapping on the motor with a heavy punch when holding down the button. Sometimes the motor brushes get carboned up, and once they start working they will continue for a while. If it doesn't, or you don't want to fool with it and get a new motor, be careful, it is easy to get a deep cut or nearly lose a finger or two when that coil spring unwinds the window arm as the motor is released. The motor/arm unit maybe held in with rivets too. they must be punched and drilled out. On some models the 3 bolts holding the motor to the gearbox are accessible by drilling holes at the punched/recessed areas. Usually the passenger side switches go bad due to lack of use, the drivers gets used many times more and seem to keep going.

Dusty these are very simple units first just for giggles check the fuses. There is just a switch
and motor. If it aint one its the other. Pull off the offending units door panel to be able to gain access to the plug connection to the motor
unplug and check with voltmeter while holding the
up down button and check for 12 volts between the two wires. If you have voltage bad motor. If no voltage check the switch It's either bad or you have a break in a wire between the switch and motor.

Right window worked left window not.
Took the door panel off to day and looked at drive motor with mirror, I think there are relays some where. I do not know what I did to it but it works now. I hope it does not quit again.
Thanks,
Dusty

Sounds like a loose connection that you may have disturbed. Also there may be a thermal switch or limit switch on the moter that may have reset itself. Acording to my 1988 manual there are no relays involved.

I guess that I am going to have to find a manual. I think I can hear relays click. The switches appear to switch ground (neutral) and they are normally closed, and open on activation.
It works now anyway. ????? ? Thanks,
Dusty
