We have been looking at new shop vacs lately and there is one brand that you can take the top off of an use it as a blower, for leaves etc. I want about 10 gal. And a large hose so I can use it for small jobs on my thickness planer. Has anyone had any experience with one of this type?

Craftsman Vacs used to be made by Emerson Tool Company (formerly Emerson Electric). Sears dropped them for a foreign producer. Emerson now produces all the Rigid Electrics, including planers and such. I have the newest 16 Gallon Vac with removable motor unit for blower. A ton of attachments and the muffler. That muffler is amazing, you can see straight throught it, but it cuts the noise like you wouldn't beleive. I love this vac, it will suck start a Harley. I realize it is bigger than what you are wanting, but Rigid has many different sizes.

Just bought a 16 gallon Craftsman, bunch of attachments, removeable blower, $100 on sale. Just got it out of the box and it rained like he** for two days here in central Iowa. Sucked a bunch of water out of my basement and used it to start siphon hoses. Works great, really like it, came with a muffler and it's quieter than I would have thought. Don't know about attaching to power tools, but have to belive Sears has an answer and an attachment. Highly reccomend it.

Good morning. We have obtaind a sears wet dry pump vac from our son and he did not have the owners manual with it. WE have had lots of rain lately and have had 3 sump pumps going and it seems to keep ahead of it. When we got his vacuun he did not know how to hook it up to make it pump out the water instead of dumping it out. I have tried Sears repair centers, parts order sections, retail stores and nobody caould tell me how to hook it up. I am going to order the manual but the water is there now and it would be nice to have the use of it without having to dump it. Could you help us out? Please???
it is model #338-179230 16 gal wet dry pump vac.

We have a Sears 10 gal vac with removable motor to make a blower. Works real good. I believe Ridgid also has one out that does the same thing, probably others also. Both of these are well under $200.

Russ, if it is Shop-Vac brand..... beware !!! I paid around 600.00 for a top-of -the line one for our shop, it would not even pick up sawdust.I called customer service, & they said I would have to pay them to try to fix it. Rather than deal with them, I tossed it in the dumpster.

I have exactly what you describe. It doesn't stand a chance hooked up to a planer, the chips are too big. It works with a table saw alright. The blower is ok, just don't expect a 300 MPH gas blower equivalent, its half of that.
