PAINT ? - Where Buy John Deere Green Type Paint

I am looking for a good deal on some metal paint that is the True John Deere Green for a 3-Point Hitch I made for the fun of it for a friend for his 1953 John Deere C Type Tractor. I would like to match up the Green paint for his type of Tractor. Do I have to go to the John Deere Dealership or is there other options that are less expensive than dealer paint ? Is there a color code for the Green and/or can it be ordered online. Does Rustoleum sell a John Deere Green to match ? If anyone wants to make a hitch for themselves or wants to see photos of the Hitch we designed and made and/or wants the plans and measurements just send me an email ( [email protected] ) and I will share them with you.

I was raised on a farm and several of my neighbors have Johnny pops around where I live. Go to a dealer and get the correct paint! You wouldn't beleave how different the colors are. Real JD paint is very good stuff. I have had special colors mixed when I redo Tootsie toys or Model toys. Paint that is Auto quality is around $38.oo a quart. That is Good paint. The real good stuff can be twice and three times more! Just go to your John Deere dealer! Jeff

Last week a well meaning neighbor who is not familiar with Deere said he saw a nice looking "C" and was willing to bet that it was a John Deere C. Upon closer examination it was found to be a "G". Could have made a couple of bucks on that one! Ed

Buy the OEM paint, only $42/g for classic green and $38 for ag green. Lasts 10x as long as the off brand. With JD be sure and use their thinner. Laquer thinner makes a mess.

From what I've heard, the Classic Green that antique restorers are drawn to by the name on the can was actually a color used on more modern tractors (think 1970s). Either should be fine, but Ag Green may be considered more 'correct' for restoration. At any rate, if it saves you a few dollars to use Ag vs. Classic, I'd go for it.

Price it at JD They have good paint that holds its color. I have tried other paints and they sure don't hold their color as good.

Take a chip and go to Home Depot or any good paint store and they'll match it up. Keep in mind that JD had many slightly different greens over the years so there is no "true" JD Green. I want to see those plans.. I'll email you.
