You know there is a recall on certain Sears radial arm saws. They are replacing the blade guard for free and also you get complete new wood for the work surface. They are made by Emerson Tool Co. check out the following website to see if your saw is one that needs the new guard.

A friend gave me his when his kids gave him a chop saw for Christmas. My BIL found one at a garage sale for $20. When I got the RAS I gave my table saw to my son. I find the RAS more usefull for my projects. With it and a 'skill' saw I do it all.

I have two of them. One at each of our houses. I paid $45 for one and $85 for the other. The $45 one needed some work, the other was perfect. In Southern CA where I live you can pick them up all the time for about $125-150. Most people don't want them, they would rather have a table saw, which is definetly more useful. If you really understand a radial arm their great machines. But the modern chop saw has made them worth less. I guess that's my 2 cents worth.

I paid $225 Can. for an well used oldy and am happy with it. I use it for cutting dados in panels/furniture parts. Have a bigger RAS for cross-cutting panels up to 30" wide. Love these saws. They are tricky to setup properly though. Hope you are good with machines.
