Please help- I have a '98 homelite 2.5cc gas weedeater-starts and runs, however will only achieve about 50% power-further gas will only bog engine down. I see no adjustment on motor eecptingto idle screw. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Gary

Gary, Take the muffler off and apart and clean the screen in the muffler of just throw it away. Had the same problem on mine and it fixed it.The screen gets build-up on it.

You're a miracle worker! Already repaired! As you suggested accurately-the muffler screen was indeed fully clogged. After removal-runs like a champ.

I really appreciate your help-have a wonderful weekend.

Gary

The fact that the spark arrestor was clogged is a sign that you are mixing your fuel a little 'rich' and/or you are running your machine a little too slow.
That carbon will continue to build up and can damage your piston/cylinder in time.

One other thing that will cause this problem is not using 2 cycle engine oil design for air cooled engines. Outboard motor oil for the most part is a high ash engine oil, air cooled engine use a no/low ash engine oil.

Jury is well out for concerning the use of 'outboard' 2 cycle oil. From where I am standing, I can't fault it in 25+ years of use in everything I have....chainsaws, outboards, Lawnboy and trimmers. Never had the first problem..ever. My lawnboy is 15+ years old and runs as new. My Stihl 028 was bought in 1981 and has cut tons of firewood. My outboard is a 1951 Goodyear 5 horse, the weedeater is a Homelite el cheapo and running great after 8 years. I buy any national brand of 2 cycle oil and mix it 32-1.....put it in everything.
