Polishing level vials

I have a 5 window level with dual vials that was used in the masonary trades. The plastic covers on the vials are dull and very hard to see thru. I used plastic scratch remover and a soft cloth and lots of elbow grease on one. I've managed to get the cover pretty clear, but the view has a wavy appearance and is not the best. (I found one supplier for new vials at $6 each, but there are only 3 left.) Does anyone have advice on a better way to restore the plastic? Polishing wheel, material, compound, speeds?

Slowpoke,
Try using plain ole toothpaste and water.But don't use anything except a cotton rag(old socks,tee shirt) of some sort.I have used this method several times with excellent results.

In the automotive industry Novus plastic polishes are used on scratched lenses. It comes in 3 grades (grits) and can work wonders. You will need all three (progressive) for heavy scratches.

Same problen with cell phone when carried in shirt pocket too long.

I've used plexiglas cleaner (available at many auto parts stores) on plastic head light lenses, it may work for your problem.

Try plain old "pledge" spray polish. I used it on all types of plastic from the windshild on my Goldwing to my eye glasses. It will fill shalow scratches and improve transparency
