JC, are you saying you were able to separate the chuck and arbor? I have a Jacobs 18N chuck on a JT4/MT3 arbor (bought it used already assembled) I've done about everything to it and could not separate it, didn't want to destroy it so I finally gave up and put it in the drill press after washing it out with mineral sprits and soaking in synthetic oil. It has a tiny hole inside, would not take more than about a 1/8 punch. I wanted to separate it because my 3N1 mill/drill/lathe unit has a MT3 tailstock but must have an arbor without the flat on the top (such as a live center has), and I wanted to be able to swap the chuck onto the lathe tailstock ocassionally. I bought it to replace the Taiwan made, way too small, chuck on my Dayton/Grainger 20 inch drill press. Wedges remove a chuck from a drill press with a JT machined on the bottom of the Quill (cheap drill presses), or as a way of separating the 1) chuck from the arbor, or 2) arbor/chuck assembly from the quill, which ever comes off first when forced with the wedges. and drill drifts remove arbors from quills with slots. Any ideas or should I give up and buy another 18N chuck, not already mounted on an arbor? Charles
