Does anyone out there have an idea as to how deep a windmill with an 8' wheel will pump water?
I've located one, but not sure if it would work. Typical well depth is around 350'----
This one has a 30' tower, if that makes a difference.

Robert, We have, model 702,(8ft dia.) aermotors pulling from 380 to 400 ft,. That work just fine in all sort of wind. pipe is 2 in gal. with wood suckerrod. It has an 1 7/8 cylinder. on a 30 ft tower.
Make sure that the head & wheel are in good shape before you get started with it. Has the head a major service in the last few yrs? Has the oil level been kept up on it? Do the blades look good, straight, not beatup, or LOOSE! Chech the brake, brake wire where it ties on to the brake assembly, that it isn't worn and could break.
Nothing worse than looseing a complete head and fan in a high wind, just because the brake wire broke. I KNOW!
Rebuilt heads can be gotton from my supplier in San Angelo for a reasonable price. if yours needs a major rebuild.
Do you know what model of mill, yours is? that has the 8ft wheel. It is cast onto the case. It will be either a 602 or 702. The 702s were made after 1932 that is still the same design that is used and copied today by other companies.
I uncovered if you want to hollar.

Thanks for the link! It told me what I wanted to know. Turns out, this windmill I found isn't up to the task.

Thats alot of depth. My experince has been with maybe up to 150/180 ft. Problem is weight of pump rods. Wooden rod or "floatation" rods help. I have seen counter weights on a "walking beam". Don't think that wheel size matters much. Would sure hate to pull that one by hand.
