Pressure washer, need a convincing boost

My wife has given me the big thumbs up on buying a nice preassure washer (probably a 2,500 to 3,000 psi, 3 gal/min machine, cold water), but I have my hesitations. If I can wash my big truck and big camping trailer (aluminum sided) and vinyl sided house from time to time and be happy with the job it does, I'd go for it. (Also I have a dozen other uses that I'm sure would work fine, but these are the main reasons I am interested in one.) But I've heard these leave a film on such surfaces and it is not the same as a good scrubbing with a sponge or brush.

Do you all use them on such surfaces, and are you happy with the results as weighed against your effort?

Rent one for a day and try it. Based on my experience you won't regret it.

Don't know what the big deal is with pressure washers. I've always used steam gennies. Mine is currently down, waiting for a deal on an oil burner on ebay. Had to rent a hot pressure washer to do my truck becuase no one had a steam generator. I wanted to try one anyways. I was not impressed. I guess if you want to wash your siding they're ok but if you're cleaning heavy grease on old machinery they're not even close.

OK Tim, I'll give you what you asked for. Buy the pressure washer. When you get it you'll use the heck out of it. I haven't talked to anyone that hasn't felt the same way. You'll wish you had bought one a long time ago.

When purchasing a "cold" water machine make certain it has the brass three piston pump with ceramic plungers. Preferably made by "CAT". They can take 140F water from your domestic hotwater heater. Makes a world of difference. Better yet if the water supply has a water softener. 11HP won't run a 3000psi/4gpm pump but a 13HP will. Make certain the manufacture didn't $kimp.

The pressure washer doesn't have anything to do with the film, that is due to your water. The only way to get a spot-free streak-free finish is to wipe the water off before it dries, same as washing a car, but you won't want to do that with your house. I suppose a harsh detergent would only make the problem worse.

Also, no, a pressure washer is not as good as washing by hand for a spotless finish.
