Thanks everybody for the suggestions of a clogged muffler. I just read this thread last evening and found a clogged muffler on my weed whip. I cleaned it and now it has pep again. It was almost completely clogged.

Adjust the screw closest to the air filter, turn it out 1/4-1/2 turn, turn the other out 1/8-1/4 turn. then you might have to turn back in just a little to lean out so not as rich. Good point check muffler screen, or the take off muffler and check exhaust port.

Turn the Low speed fuel adjustment counterclockwise just a smidgen to enrich the low speed mix. Keep trying to rev it up while adjusting the mix.

Thanks for helpfull the tips, also this is not in high weeds, it dose it while not cutting grass, so a 454 chevy is not needed.

Pull the muffler and see if it has one of those spark arrestor screens in it. You can clean them or I just toss them. restriction there will cause same symptoms. A carb kit may be in order here also, not that expensive. Some of these rascals have a very touchy adjustment also. Use correct gas mix and be consistant with the mixture.

Been fighting my ryobi since last spring. Your bogging down because you are either flooding or starving the engine of fuel. If I were you, I would get a rebuild kit for the carb and clean the carb housing well. Next, I would check the cylinder jug. I found my piston was scored badly, I thought I had ordered a cylinder assembly/w piston; it was just the cylinder. Still that seemed to improve performance. Big thing to remember: fresh gas, proper oil mix.

Dewey, Getting that weed eater head to spin is just too much load for those tiny engines. This aint your 454 chevy that you can slam to the floor and burn rubber. The weedeater engine relies on momentum to keep the head turning, that is why in high weeds grass it can be slowed/stopped if over loaded. Patience with those little engines is required.
