What do I need to do to a lawn mower engine that has sat for about 15 years with gas in the tank? Someting I can pour in the carb & what else?

Small engines often have "not meant to be replaced" fuel screens. May be located in the fuel tank (some B&S models have carb mounted on top of fuel tank, with a brass tube hanging into tank). This item is often gummed up and restricts fuel flow to the carb (symptom is the engine runs when you put fuel in air intake, but stalls without, or only runs - and poorly - with choke on).

Pull this assembly apart and soak anything that might be gummed up in a good solvent. I like acetone.

Probably easiest to go ahead & rebuild the carb. I would check for compression & spark first to make sure it is worth fixing. Carb kits are cheap, I just put one in a DR trimmer with a 5hp Briggs, it was $7.00..... .....

Get the fuel out of the tank, should be greenish and smell like lacquer,, buy some B-12 liquid from Walmart auto section....get a few cans...best carb/fuel additative made.....rinse you the tank good...Change the oil, put a tablespoon of oil in the cylinder and turn it over real slow to make sure it turns over..if it's stuck...different story... Get the bowl off the carb and get a can of B-12 spray.. pop the low speed needle out and start spraying everything...pop out the needle and seat under the float...this whole thing would be easier if you remove the carb, I'm just trying to get you there without moving the carb.

The idea here is to get all the old gas that laquered up off and out of openings in the carb... Put a bit of fresh gas in the tank....put a touch of B-12 liquid into the gas and try to fire it... I'll assume you have spark and compression and the only thing you'll need to do is get the gas flowing to the cylinder. If it doesn't fire, put a teaspoon of gas into the cylinder and try again.

If you not sure of what you're doing, or don't know what I'm talking about...find someone to help you.
