Old Kellogg Aircompressor

Someone gave me this aircompressor and I was fixing it up. I got it looking good but does not run too well.This was made it 1949 and It is model 3222-T. I check the head and found only one piston in it.Seems like the smaler one is gone, but it was plug up inorder to work. My problem is that it get to about 60 lbs and thats it. You strat to hear the pressure coming back.I repalce the check valve but did no good. Is there any place to get parts for this to get it working good again or should I just give up. Thanks!

I'd be tempted to call it a day on something this old. I doubt you'll find any parts for it. Depends on how hard you want to look, and how long you are willing to wait for something to turn up. Theoretically, the first piston should give you more than 60 psi, unless there is a safety valve between cylinders one and two. 60 psi sounds like the normal pop-off pressure for an interstage safety valve, so you might want to replace it with a 150 psi one, and use the pump as a one lunger single stage, albeit, a rough running one. Alternately, there might be a piece of head gasket missing between the low and high pressure cylinders. When the 1st stage cylinder discharges out into the interstage, the pressure comes right back into the 1st stage through the gap in the head gasket. I had this problem one day and I pulled my hair out trying to fix it, since the pump wasn't producing more than 80 psi, but the safety valve in the interstage wasn't popping to indicate bad valves.

Thanks for the quick reply..I see no safety between the 2 cylinders and the smaller one is pluged up with a bolt plugging up the output of the cylinder, and I get no air coming out of the smaller output port. I would think a would get more than 60lbs also but I do not. After a while its been running and the presssure builds I hear a back flow in the crankcase. If I watch the oil sight glass and put my palm over the oil filler the oil starts to pump like a heart beat. But this could be normal,, Thanks Roger
