Dear Readers: What is your experience/recommendation for either product or percentage combo of bleach with water to clean mildew mold off Vinyl siding? We don't want to bleach out the black shutters. Thx, Dee (couldn't find this subject in my searches in archives).

I use a small hand pump sprayer mixing 1 part bleach to 3 parts water. For stubborn mold, mildew, & dirt add in liquid TSP tri-sodium phosphate. It's a good cleaning soluation. With a hand pump sprayer you only hit the parts of the house you want and can avoid anything the bleach might damage. Although I've never seen this diluted formula of bleach hurt anything but
stinging my skin. I work on only one side of the house at a time and immediately follow with a
pressure washer but if the mold and mildew isn't too bad a garden hose will work. If you get TSP
(lowes, westlakes, etc) be sure to get the liquid kind and not the powder form because the powder will plug up your sprayer. Also be sure to first water down any shrubs, flowers, grass, etc that the bleach could hurt and then water them down again when done. Also watch out for the wind, it can blow that bleach/water mix back in your face. From Steve in Jeff City Mo Good Luck.

Steve and Mac's soloution with the small sprayer works fine. Just be sure to fully flush out the sprayer when done, the chlorine will eat up the sprayer parts over time.

I was told years ago, 1 bleach to 3 water. I have used this for years. I just use a garden sprayer to apply, leave it a few minutes and hose it off. Dont seem to hurt my brown vinyl shutters.
Wear old cloths and you should use eye protection. If you are a glasses wearer, those that change in the sun, dont get this solution on them.
