howdy fellers- today i found a 'echo' brand leaf blower. a backpack type. model # pb - 400e.

well- it was thrown out with some folks trash. i stopped and picked it out of the garbage. got all the pieces for it.

here is my questions-

1. -- the carb is broke off the thing. it ain't bent. the plastic piece that fits between the carb and the block is in 3 pieces.

can i glue that thing back together with super glue and use it? its got a full tank of gas and the plug has got plenty of spark (ouch!!!)

2. -- do any of you know where i can buy parts for echo stuff online?

i reckeon it fell off a landscaper truck and landed on the carb. don't look like a thing is wrong with any of it 'cept that carb a danglin.
sure could use it here on my place.

any suggestions will be warmly recieved- it's to get 90 here today so the later you wait to reply the warmer it will be received!!!! hahaha

I have a Searss leaf blower and the same thing happen. The bolts that hold the carburetor on broke. The bolts used were hardened self tapping screws mounted on a plastic type bakelite block. The broken bots were removed by using a small masonry drill at high speed. I machined metal inserts with a -28 OD. / 10-32 ID. There is not much material left the repair part reassembles a helicoil insert. The inserts were Loctited into the mounting block and the blower assembled. This is my second season using he blower and the repair is holding up fine. I in the woods on ten acres of land and I typically use about four to five gallons of fuel a season removing leaves.

No mater what brand you buy all blowers are basically made cheep. As far as grabbing something from the trash, I see nothing wrong with it. If you can use the item that is one less thing in the landfill. I recently found a walk behind blower / vacuum. All it needed was a carb cleaning. The fuel in the tank smelled like turpentine. The same house through away a lawn mover. The mower could not have been two years old. I replaced the fuel and it started first pull. The blade for the mower still had a paper sticker on it. Evidently the previous owner tried to get the mower running and installed a new plug, blade and filter. All he needed to do was replace the fuel.

can't believe it myself. after glueing that plastic or bakelite job back together.. i used baking powder mixed with crazy glue to fill the voids and set the brass threaded insert into the right place and glued the heck out of it... --then straightened up the air filter attachement piece... and straightened up the choke flap.
--then i straightened the screws that hold the carb to the block,
--then i made gaskets from a coors 12 pack box - - i needed 3 of them, so thats why i got a 12 pack.
-- then a new fuel line --- then cleaned the plug --- 3rd. pull it fired off!!!

Ever think to look in the yellow pages of Your local phone book for "Lawn & Garden Equipment Dealers"? Echo may be listed on one of the dealer listings.

How about a piece of hose and clamp. I'll bet you got that in the garqage. Not sure how big you need but you should be able to cobble it back together pretty easily.

Mud: Dont think you will have good results with a glue job. Might go to a good mower shop if there is one available and they can order it for you. Might inquire at the echo web site also.

I don't think any cyanoacrylate glue will work for two reasons 1. When it cures, it cures almost brittle so it wouldn't stand up very long to the vibration a leaf blower makes. At least I haven't had much luck. 2. Fuel and oil will find its way between the glue and the carb pieces, losing the bond. 'Course most any adhesive bond on plastic will eventually breakdown since there is no penetration. If you do use super glue use the gel or add a wee bit of baking soda to the parts before the glue is applied. The thin, watery like, super glue doesn't do a very good job in filling gaps when it cures.
You might try using the ol' tractor standby - JB Weld or some other epoxy. Might want to clean the parts with acetone, MEK or lacquer thinner to get all of the grease oil and whatevers off.
The local Echo retailer won't mail you a new carb ?
