I was thinking of getting a pneumatic grease gun. Anyone have any experience and brand recommendations?

There is a tool made that you fill with oil and put it over the top of stubborn grease fittings and smack with a hammer and it forces grease through fittings where the grease has dried up inside creating a blocked passage. The only problem I've seen with mine is you might have to take out an angular fitting and install a straight one so you can hit it with a hammer without breaking it off. Now you know the rest of the story. Fred OH

Consider getting the continuous flow type...as long as you hold down the trigger, grease will flow. The other cheapy ones only pump a small amount each time you pull the trigger; that gets old ( I have both types). I bought a continous flow type Craftsman at Sears that works well. It was about $50. Lincoln makes one also. It can be purchased from Harbor Freight for about the same amount.

It's a lot easier to use than trying to hold a flex hose on an old fitting and pumping with one hand. Just push on and go.

I have a cartridge type gun, believe it was marketed under the Coleman brand name. Works OK for simple greasing, but cannot generate enough pressure to force grease into tough places. I get our the old hand operated guns, for that, infact, hardly ever use air powered unit.

I have two, one is for a 30gallon drum and the other a 5 gallon pail. They are really nice for lubing equipment at the barn. I carry a battery powered gun in the fields, the plastic case holds the gun and 2 extra tubes. I just strap the case onto the tractor and run.

I use a Lincoln pneumatic grease gun which has been more reliable than the cheapy types. If I was to buy another I would try a Plues(sp?) brand gun. They have the pump mounted on the grease tube at 90 degrees angle compared to most others with the pump mounted at a 45 degree angle. The 90 degree pump mount has a much shorter grease passage from tube to pump, this makes cold grease flow into the pump a lot easier.
