This is a bad sign of age I guess. My 22 yr old son called last night and asked how to connect and use a dwell meter. After a long silence and little head scratching I had to tell him that I used to know but don't anymore. He was at a friends house working on 69 chevy pickup 250 6 cyl, told him to set points at about 20-21 to allow for a little wear and that I would get an answer for him. thanks for now

Remind him to make sure that he sets the selector switch to the correct number of cylinders. Dwell meters are an accurate way to measure point setting, and if you rev up the engine and the dwell meter needle bounces and changes a lot it is a good indication of worn distributor bushings. Coil side of distributor and ground. I know what you mean, however you should be proud that your 22 year old knows what points are, let alone a dwell meter. Good luck

Dwell meter hooks to the distributor wire, the one that go to the coil. This is the same as the hot side of the points. Other connection goes to ground. If its electronic, don't ask me.
