Can anyone tell me how the clutch cover comes apart or direct me to a site which would illustrate a breakdown (schematic) of the saw.

Successfully completed after a bit of head scratching. Thanks for the feedback.

I've taken apart the clutch cover on a Husky 266, you should see a plastic piece on the inside of the clutch cover, its near the brake handle but on the back side that the clutch is on, there should be a few screws there, once they're out, you can take the old band out and install a new one. I will warn you, about one thing, NEVER i mean NEVER operate a chainsaw without the chainbrake in place and functional, when the saw kicks back at you, you'll be glad its there. The brake system is very simple to disassemble and repair, its mostly just a metal band, screws, a spring, activation lever, and a magnesium or plastic cover that holds it all together. I hope I've helped some in your task.

NEVER start the saw with the clutch cover off. My teenage son did that and almost lost an eye when the clutch flew apart. The doc spent about three hours picking pieces of his glasses out of his eye, besides the cuts to his eyeball.
