Has anyone given any thought to using pickup axles for a light duty car trailer. I have a pair with springs and hangers. would plan on 16 footer with a dovetail.and enough channel iron for it. Any ideas would be appriecated thanks.Chris

One thing to watch for - if you are using semi-floating axles, the "c" clips that hold the axles shaft in the differential can come off and let the axle shaft come out of the axle housing. the use of full floating axles will work and you can remove the differential and even cut off the axle shafts. Hope this helps.

I'm sure it's been done, but wouldn't it get pretty high & kind of on the heavy side?

i built a trailer with two 3/4 ton ford rears with the centers cut out and put hydraulic brakes on them and used it for 10-12 years till i got a gooseneck. i put my deck over the tires so it was high for cars but worked good for hay and tractors.....

Tim, How did you activate the brakes, with a tongue actuator or what? How smooth was the braking?

Thanks, Nathan

i used a surge brake in the tongue it all worked good except you had to locck it out to back up a hard grade or the brakes would come on.
