I have several different brand shop vacuums. My son recently dropped a 10 gallon Shop Vac which was mostly full of water. This broke off the plastic bushing which holds the metal stem of the castor - for 2 of the 4 castors. This vac is about 10 years old. I got on the Net to see if I could locate the boken parts- but no luck. I looked in the phone book under vacuum repair and called. The outcome was that he called Shop Vac, who had a set, and shipped it to him at no charge. I picked it up this AM- at no charge. He says that of all the brands Shop Vac is the best for him to work with. They have parts, they get them shipped promptly, and the cost is reasonable. He mentioned Oric (?) as having unreasonable prices- citing a replacement cord at $80, adding that they are designed with a special fitting so you have to use their cord.Now the other interesting thing is that he does not actually stock any of the Shop Vac vacuums. He says even his dealer "wholesale" prices are higher than Walmarts retail price. He is a dealer for them because the company easy to deal with, and it brings people to his shop (which is a bit out of the way). He says it is better than advertising in the paper. My guess is that it also brings in a different group of people, as most of his vacuums appeared to be for floors/carpet or whole house systems. My current vacuums are an old Craftsman, and old Sheldon Jet Vac (salvaged from someones trash) and 2 Shop Vac's. Several years ago I purchased a Rigid vac - but promptly returned it, as the noise was intolerable- even for my noise exposed ears. No way am I going to put in my earplugs just to run the vac. I got a 12 gallon Shop Vac QSP Pro (super quiet power). Much better. OK, I know this is staring to sound like an ad. I dont sell them, and am not getting paid. My experince did get me thinking about quality and customer service, and I wanted to pass on my experience
