Once you have "Located" and are "At" the website which you are looking for "Add" it to your "Favorites" list so that you can recall it at anytime.

Hi cb,

I didn't like the way XP came set-up (default) so I changed it closer to the way Win98 orperated but with the XP improvements.

One was changing the default search engine too google, then once too Google then google advance search solves my problem. I also changed too one click.

The biggest asset I found with XP is the restore feature. Before I load any new sofeware, or really any modifications, I do a current restore and name it too the mod/software I'm installing.

If I don't like the mod/software then 5minutes of restore I'm back to where I started before the install. Geez thats nice!

On a slight side note, I highly recommend loading the Google tool bar. You can find it by searching in Google for "Google toolbar".

The Google toolbar also includes a very handy pop-up killer too!

First thing I'd do before trying to solve any problems is use the Windows Update and download all of Microsloth's Critical Updates, patches, etc.

I have an E Machine with XP and get notices of 'fixlet' messages from BigFix. Is it the same updates as Microsoft tells me to download? Most of the MS stuff deals with someone taking over my computer.

BigFix, from what I'm able to tell, is in the "vulnerability management" business. As such, I'd imagine they would try to make you aware of critical and other updates from MS as well as worms/viruses detected by the likes of Symantec & McAfee, "spyware" detected by folks like Spybot, etc. I don't see where it would hurt to use them. I personally use Symantec & Spybot. The starting point, though, is with the MS Critical Updates. IMO.

And, as far as "someone taking over my computer" is concerned, that's the whole idea behind all of this: to prevent it! Updates that make things go smoother and faster are certainly nice to have, but updates that prevent things from getting trashed are critical. (Hence, the term "critical updates".)

HTH ..
