Need to buy a shop vac for clean up on a job site (Home renovation/addition). Mainly sawdust and small wood chunks. May get used for attachment to power tools for dust collection and occasional "wet" cleanup. Anybody have one they're particularly happy or otherwise with?

the same company manufactures craftsman/ridgid however sears only gives you a 90 day warranty and ridgid give you a lifetime.
i have a ridgid and use the hepa filters, i'm happy.

I have a Stihl. Works great and have had no problems in the 10 yrs I have had it. The thing I like most about it is that it is very quiet compared to any other that I have had or used.

Craftsman vacs are junk. If you want the best, get a WAP Turbo vac. About $350.00. Very little noise and that vac really sucks, lol

Couple of comments. First, I have a Craftsman. Works great. Comment is made it is noisey. Sears makes a muffler for about $12 that quiets it right down. Plugs into the exhaust.

Second, if you use it in a woodshop like a basement, see the attached. It is kind of cool, it intercepts a lot of the heavy stuff and collects it before it gets to the vac.

I have a five point something horsepower Sears/Craftsman 16 gallon shop vac I bought at the Sears parts and service center. Usually at the parts/service centers (not in the stores) they have a room with clearance and closeout items. They had a bunch of these vacs, they were the same as any other but were a special package with not ony 2 inch hose but also one and a quarter inch hose and adapters and accessories, two filters, and a few other things. Special packing of the product, sale was over with, so they put them in the closeout room to get rid of them. I've used this and several other Sears shop vacs. They are like the Rigid and others, NOISY. They are cheaper than what you will find at Lowes and Home Depot and as good if not better.

Filters and parts are easy to get too. The hose and accessories is a standard that you can also get at Home Depot, etc.

For what you are doing, get at least the 16 gallon size with 5 to 6 horse or more..... . oh yes, buy a case of ear plugs too!!!

I have an old Craftsman twin-motor with a 40 gallon takn. Bought it for $4 at a high school auction about 15 years ago. It had been in a flood, so the bearings needed to be replaced and all of the dried mud blown out of it, but that was pretty easy to do. It'll suck the bunghole out of a elephant with both those motors running. It is noisy and a power hog, as it will warm up an extension cord pretty good if you run it for more than a few minutes at a time.

We use a craftsman vac to prep houses for paint. I think it has a 5 1/2 peak horsepower rating (i'm not sure), but it beats the pants off our old 1 1/2 horsepower craftsman. They stand up to alot of punishment, and handle drywall dust pretty well. The only thing though is you have to be sure to clean the filter often. Thats essential to their performance. Without a clean filter, they dont do much. Otherwise theyre great. Mostly though, the filter has to be frequently cleaned because the drywall dust is so fine and easilly clogs it. Otherwise for sawdust and dirt its pretty low mantainence. Noisy too!

I have a large craftsman I inherited from my dad 10 years ago. works very well. it's VERY LOUD. Check the noise level before you buy. of course I'd take great suction over low noise, but if you can find a low noise model with good suction that's the one to get.

I got a Sears Craftsman the larger of them. Great suction and it's light to carry around. With Sears its made by one of the big name companies without the higer price. Mine is 4 years old and I'm not afraid to use it

I paid around $600.00 for a Shop-Vac brand vacuum, it is worthless !!!!! It will not even pick up loose sawdust. Several calls to the factory got no results, they wanted to charge to fix it, & it was only a few weeks old.... It was taking up space, so I finally tossed it in the dumpster. Buyer beware !!! A few years ago I got a wet/dry sears vac, it really has the cleanup power, cleans gutters and all. Gave about 125 bucks on sale. Been well pleased with it. Remember tho the bigger the better.

I rented a 16 gal. Craftsman a few years ago to clean out a pulltype combine that plugged in a wheat field! I sure was awed by its power. In less than 30 minutes I had to dump the bucket 3 times! This was probably about 80% wheat, & 20% straw... Not an easy task for any vac!

I have a Master Mechanic made by Shop Vac. It is by far the best I ever had. It also has a feature all vacs should have. You can put a filter bag inside the tank to catch all the dirt so the regular filter doesn't plug all the time. Now I don't spend half the time cleaning filters. The dirt just stays inside the bag. The bag attatches to the inside where the hose goes in. Mine is a 12 gal size.
