When painting with synthetic enamel, do I add hardner for each coat of paint, or just the final coat? Also I know acrylic enamel would be the next step up in quality from the synthetic enamel,so is it possible to get a acrylic enamel in the $60 to $75 a gallon range at all. If so what brand? I have heard some not so good things about Martin Senour paints . . Any Opinions? Thanks for any info.

We used to spray synthetic paint without hardner for years with good results, but after hardners came out, we used them because of better results. Yes, you use hardner with each coat of paint, NOT just the final one. Costs of paint vary with each manufacturer. The job thats being painted would determine the cost factor of the paints for me. Such as if it was a swing set I would go as cheap as possible, but if it was a car then I would go with better materials. I have used the RM diamont base/clear system for years and I like the results, however its VERY expensive. As an alternative they have a one step process that uses a hardner with each "cup" of paint that you mix. This is the way to go if you want lasting results without clearcoating. But, anything that uses hardners is not cheap and make sure you dont spray with out a mask. Everyone has the same basic system, DuPont, PPG, etc. but whosever you choose, use all their materials, dont mix and match. Good Luck
